Typhoon Lagoon is easily the best of Disney’s two water parks – and it’s about to get even better and bigger.

Disney has filed for planning permission to build a new ‘family raft ride’ in an unused parcel of land at Typhoon Lagoon.

According to the plans, the new ride will be located near the Crush ‘n’ Gusher ride, which was the last attraction to be built in a Disney water park – way back in 2005.

Of course, nothing official from Disney has been announced. These plans are made public knowledge thanks to planning laws in the Sunshine State. But as you can see, there foundation footers in the plans, which demonstrate where the new ride will take its guests.

A diagram from our good friends at WDWMAGIC shows where the ride will go – marked in yellow.

Disney is clearly more than a little concerned about recent developments at Universal – which is burning through cash right now in a bid to win market share in the fiercely competitive theme park industry in Florida.

Universal’s Volcano Bay water park opens in 2017, so Disney are obviously trying to protect their dominance in the area. But there’s nothing wrong with a little healthy competition. Whichever side of the water park fence you’re on, this battle between the two theme park giants can only result in better experiences and attractions for everyone.
